How does MJOLNIR work?  MJOLNIR, the most advanced, non-invasive skin tightening and rejuvenation device. It’s highly versatile and very effective in improving common concerns such as wrinkles, texture, loss of elasticity and loss of volume in almost any area. MJOLNIR converts electrical energy into nitrogen and transmits that energized gas in a non-contact way to the skin’s surface. This causes a micro-trauma to the skin’s epidermal layer while simultaneously heating and disrupting the deeper layers of the skin. This thermal conduction is known as fibroblasting and results in collagen production in our connective tissue.

The concept of fibroblasting has been around for little a while now and is based upon the skin’s ability to naturally repair itself when injured.  Immediately following an injury, our skin begins the process of dissolving tissue damage and replacing it with new cells.  Fibroblasting allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair process by creating precise, micro-injuries in the skin, which automatically trigger new collagen synthesis without causing scar tissue formation.  The micro-injuries also create channels that allow product to penetrate deeper into the skin resulting in better product efficacy.

How is the MJOLNIR procedure done?  A sterile and disposable cartridge containing nine 25 micro-copper probes are built into the consumable tip of MJOLNIR, and the appropriate power level and treatment course is selected for your skin type.  Next, apply the handpiece tip directly flush onto the skin and press the trigger. The device will release 25 plasma arcs simultaneously in either one, two, or three passes without having to lift the handpiece on the targeted area.

Does it hurt?  Generally, it is not comfortable unless topical anesthetic is used.  Most offices apply a topical numbing agent to the skin prior to the treatment so that the most efficacious setting can be achieved while keeping the patient comfortable.

How long does the MJOLNIR procedure take?  The procedure takes 15-60 minutes depending on the size of the area treated and severity of damage on the skin. What is the downtime after a MJOLNIR procedure?  Immediately following the treatment, you will notice a healthy pink glow. Subsequently, injuries in the form of “dots”; in the days following eventually turning into scabs. Total healing time also depends on the severity of the damaged skin and depth of repair process required.  On average, patients are pink for 1-2 days.  Most patients heal completely in 4 days.  Most patients report that their skin feels slightly “windburned” for the first day.  Your skincare specialist may recommend a topical product to be used afterwards for maximum results and minimal healing time.

How many MJOLNIR treatments will I need?  Treatments can be determined by the skincare professional based upon treatment goals and health of your skin.  It is recommended for most patients to receive 1-3 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart.  For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars it is recommended to receive 3-6+ sessions at 4 week intervals.
